Tim Lott was born in Southall, West London in 1956. After a career in journalism, his first book, The Scent of Dried Roses, a memoir, was published in 1996 and won the PEN/JR Ackerley Prize for Autobiography. Since then, he has published numerous successful novels including White City Blue, which won the Whitbread First Novel Award, and Fearless, which was shortlisted for the Guardian Children’s Book Award. Tim appears on TV and Radio as a commentator and critic. His authored documentary, ‘The New Middle Classes’ was broadcast on BBC Four. He writes for a wide range of national magazines and newspapers and is a prolific travel journalist. He also teaches creative writing in association with Guardian Masterclasses.
He will be giving a storytelling workshop at the Idler Academy.
