Amy Cartwright, Hannah Monkley and Amy Towle sparked a world-wide reaction when they walked dressed as Suffragettes at London’s Women’s March in January 2017. Brandishing their placard emblazoned ‘Same Shit, Different Century’, their image was shared over Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, reaching a wide community and endorsed by celebrities including Dita Von Teese, Mark Gatiss and Ralph Little, and featured in an article in The Guardian.
They will speak with Sarah Mower about what has happened since, why the 100 year-old suffrage movement is vital to remember in times when women’s rights are being threatened. Amy, Hannah and Amy work at Cosprop, the internationally recognised period costume house which has provided costumes for Downton Abbey (ITV), The Crown (Netflix), Victoria (ITV), Poldark (BBC), Pride and Prejudice (1995) and (2005), Anna Karenina (2011), The Duchess (2008), The King’s Speech (2010).
In a separate talk on the ART SCHOOL stage, they’ll be opening the door on the myriad careers which exist in costume design.
