The work of Martin Parr (born 1952) bridges the divide between art and documentary photography. His studies of the idiosyncrasies of mass culture and consumerism around the world, his innovative imagery and his prolific output have placed him firmly at the forefront of contemporary photography. A member of the international photo agency Magnum, Parr is an avid collector of books and a world authority on the photobook, co-authoring Phaidon’s best-selling series The Photobook: A History Volumes I–III. His other books published by Phaidon include Think of England, Boring Postcards and Boring Postcards USA, and the retrospective monograph Martin Parr. Since 1994, Parr has been a member of Magnum Photos. He has published over 80 photobooks of his work, edited many others, and has featured in around 80 exhibitions worldwide.
