Count Arthur Strong

Count him in… Arthur Strong to join the party next summer

Nominated for three British Comedy awards – Best New Comedy, Best Sitcom and Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist – Count Arthur Strong’s star is certainly rising. After years rattling around the dusty depths of the BBC variety show store cupboard, the “doyen of light entertainment, raconteur and bon vivant” is now working with BAFTA award winning writer Graham Lineham (Father Ted and The IT Crowd) on a second series of their hit BBC2 sitcom. And he’s even published his memoirs, Through it all I Always Laughed (Faber & Faber) – which has just been shortlisted for Comedy Book of the Year.

We’re very pleased he’s coming to Port Eliot in 2014 – be sure to hold tight while he regales us with his questionable sagas and showbiz tall tales in his trademark amiably eccentric, ebullient and tourettic style. The deluded thespian’s epic illusions of grandeur, selective memory loss and propensity for malamorphisms – with resulting nonsensical conversation, chaos and hilarity – have propelled his popularity to a Marmite-like status.
