One of the UK’s most original, magical, bohemian, bookish, colourful, musical and comic festivals returns to tempt you with a new adventure
in 2009… Pitch your tent in the stunning fairytale grounds of the
ancient Port Eliot estate in Cornwall, cast aside all inhibition and explore:
The new Heavenly Records venue on the banks of the estuary, brought to you by Jeff Barrett and
his ‘Caught By The River’ coterie of anglers with a Saturday night Fish Fry; the Boathouse, with
One Minute Disco dishing up a crazy impromptu party on the hour, every hour; and Gavin Turk’s
now-legendary House of Fairy Tales, set deep in our enchanted woodland rhododendron garden.
In the Walled Garden, Barbara Hulanicki of Biba brings your vintage back to life; on the Bowling
Green, Edwyn Collins performs a solo set with a reading by his wife, Grace Maxwell; in the
Cabaret Tent, Saint Etienne’s Bob Stanley DJs a history of teenage pop and Gaz Mayall whips up
the rock n’ roll to a frenzy; in the Big Kitchen, Hardeep Singh Kholi cooks an Indian takeaway;
while in St German’s church, Louis de Bernières plays his mandolin.
William Dalrymple, Hanif Kureishi, Arthur Smith, Kamila Shamsie, Simon Munnery,
Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Justine Picardie, Michael and Emily Eavis, Alain de Botton,
Patrick McCabe, Alexander Waugh, Chris Watson, Hadley Freeman, Mohsin Hamid, and
Gavin Pretor-Pinney are all set to join the party, with the full line-up to be announced in early 2009.
A wonderful array of experiences await – from a séance to a massage on the estuary, dancing the
night away to laughing until it hurts, sampling the magnificent selection of food stalls to kids’
games in the supervised children’s area. |
