“Port Eliot brings out the child in all of us. Walking through the gates is like opening the wardrobe doors and entering Narnia. Whether you’re joining a treasure hunt in the maze with a cast of costumed characters, or becoming a pirate for the weekend, adventure and excitement lurk behind every corner.
Every year we host some of the biggest names in children’s literature – illustrators who bring imaginary worlds to life before your very eyes, and authors who will leave you spellbound. In recent years we’ve had readings from the likes of Lauren Child, David Baddiel and Kate Winslet.
There’s plenty for young, enquiring minds to learn too with a whole host of children’s workshops: making accessories in the Wardrobe Department with legendary designers; learning how to dance Bollywood style; drumming, knitting, and wildlife illustration. For slightly older children (and adults) there’s kayaking or archery down by the river. And don’t forget to pack your swimming costume for wild swimming!
Hidden up in the woods is the dedicated children’s area. It provides a haven for adventure, with enchanting performances, interactive theatre, and activities galore.
You’ll find magic around every corner - and sometimes in the most unexpected places - at Port Eliot with street magicians, dance troupes, hula-hoopers, jugglers and clowns aplenty.
And this year, to round off each day, we’ll have bedtime stories read by some of our most notable authors to send younger sleepy heads off to bed.”
