The Oyster Shack will be back with a glorious swash, hosting a restaurant in the Walled Garden at Port Eliot. Serving an array of local oysters, shellfish and catch of the day in the rustic romantic surrounds.
Their ethos is ‘serving fresh, locally sourced, sustainable oysters, shellfish and seafood, served with heaps of soul’ and is heavily influenced by what is in season in the surrounding area and what has been landed daily by the local fisherman in Devon and Cornwall.
Twenty-six years ago Avon Oysters was founded. Merely a shack in its most basic sense, it was an oyster farm in its original form, bursting with row upon row of oyster purification tanks. Oyster lovers would arrive in the dozens to buy their fresh oysters bringing with them a packed lunch, shucking their own oysters, accompanied by some crusty bread and all washed down with a bottle of wine or two. Many would pitch up their own deckchairs & while away an afternoon in the blissful peace and quiet of the Avon valley and thus The Oyster Shack was born.
Launched with a very simplistic menu, the shack has continued to evolve, keeping the ethos of simply cooked local seafood at its heart.
Passionate about protecting our land, seas and coastlines, The Shack continues to work with local suppliers that support sustainable approaches. We will be supporting both the Lobster Hatchery and Fisherman’s Mission at Port Eliot to help raise awareness of these charities.
