Kieran will be setting up his own mountain basecamp at the festival and inviting you to learn how to cook incredible expedition food on both gas and fire:
- Cooking with Fire: Learn how to cook properly with fire, and make gourmet basecamp dishes - tandoori lamb, homemade pickles, fresh chapatti; or hot smoked fish, salt baked beetroot, wild greens; caramelised plums with coconut panna cotta. Min age: 10. Important info: Sharp implements (including knives and skewers), hot pans and stoves will be used.
- Basecamp Breakfast/Brunch: Improving your camp breakfasts/brunches. Make gourmet meals using 3 great staples; Oats, flour and eggs. With these ingredients as our starting points we can create amazing dishes such as Egyptian shakshuka, dark chocolate, plum and maple porridge, or Welsh cakes with apple compote and pine needle syrup.
- One Pot Wonders: How to eat well if you’re trekking or kayaking for days in the wilderness and have limited space or weight? Using lightweight ingredients combined with wild edibles you’ll be shown how to make a number of high-energy yet delicious meals. Min age: 7. Workshop involves the use of hot stoves, pans and sharp implements.
Kieran Creevy is an expedition chef, private chef and International mountain leader.
He’s worked on the mountains and as a chef for more than 20 years. On many occasions, in both capacities on the same trip.
Over the last few years he’s worked with brands like The North Face, Adidas Terrex, Marmot UK, Lowe Alpine, the Royal Geographical Society, London and the Kendal Mountain Festival to teach athletes, explorers and outdoor enthusiasts how to eat better in the outdoors and while on expedition.
He’s a frequent contributor to a number of adventure publications, including; Sidetracked magazine, Adidas Terrex catalogue, Ripcord Journal, Adventure.com, Fall-Line magazine and for 2017 he will be producing outdoor cooking recipes for Lowe Alpine, Climbing US and Mountain Safety Research.
