A Taste of Things to Come

The season of fabulous fresh produce, al fresco eating and barbecues is well and truly upon us and our mouths are watering as we finalise this year’s culinary line-up.

Port Eliot is known for the quality and variety of festival food on offer. Chefs from Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Cornwall will be running a special deli café in front of the House and, roaming around the beautiful festival site, you can enjoy Chris Sherville‘s delicious fresh fish in the Walled Garden; Byron burgers at Caught By The River; delicious cocktails from Silver Rocketeer’s Art Deco mobile cocktail bar and much more.

Peter Gordon, the “godfather of fusion cuisine” will be creating the ultimate barbecue on the Bowling Green, as well as giving a demo in our beautiful Big Kitchen. Peter pushes the boundaries of what is possible with food, playing with what is expected when one national cuisine starts and another stops.

When the New Zealand chef and author isn’t dashing back and forth between the north and south hemispheres, chasing perfection in his Auckland and London restaurants, he writes for Condé Nast and the Financial Times, develops new cookbooks and teaches his own unique twist on fusion cuisine. We can’t wait to watch him work his boundary-breaking magic at Port Eliot.

“Probably Britain’s greatest female chef” (The Independent), MBE and Michelin star winning chef Angela Hartnett comes to Port Eliot for the second time. A protégé of Gordon Ramsay, Angela is currently the Chef-Patron at the prestigious Murano restaurant as well as the York and Albany pub in London.

After working at the Sugar Club and co-launching the award-winning The Providores and Tapa Room, Anna Hansen opened her first solo restaurant, The Modern Pantry, in 2008 to rave reviews. She’ll be sharing insights from her new book, The Modern Pantry Cookbook.

Niki Segnit, author of The Flavour Thesaurus (whose fans include Kate Winslet and Nigel Slater) will be hosting a flavour tasting session to examine which flavours go well together. From basil leaves and M&S sweets to dried apricots and goat’s cheese, she’ll be sharing fascinating facts with some illustrative tastings along the way.

Other culinary treats this year include TV chef and Wahaca founder Thomasina Miers; food columnist and regular Port Eliot favourite Rose Prince; top Franco-English chef Daniel de la Falaise and Fat Hen Forager Caroline Davey. Lindsey Bareham, author of 12 acclaimed cookery books including Pasties, will also be revealing the secrets of the perfect Cornish Pasty…

Or if you fancy something a bit more leftfield, Cooking In The Danger Zone host and all-round culinary wildman Stefan Gates brings an approach to food that results in recipes for Jellyfish Burgers, a Custard Flamethrower and the worrying Legendary Bum Sandwich. Who knows what he has in store for us at this year’s fesival…?
