The Secret’s Out

You may have seen them on the cover of The Sunday Times Culture magazine this weekend, as well as rave reviews on both sides of the pond. This week The Secret Sisters also embark on a Europe-wide tour.

After a whirlwind trip that sees them head back to The States at the end of May, the duo will return to the UK for festival season with an eagerly anticipated appearance at Port Eliot on Friday night (22 July) on the Caught By The River stage, where they’re sure to go down a storm.

Laura and Lydia Rogers have been hailed as the saviours of ‘authentic’ country music and, having shared the stage with legendary performers and connoisseurs of the genre such as Willie Nelson, Ray Lamontagne, Elvis Costello and Jack White, it’s clear they think so too.

With their ensemble of vintage dresses, stunning scarlet lipstick, elaborate hair and high heels, the duo look every inch the 1940s dames they so dearly love. But, far from being a mere tribute to the time, The Secret Sisters feel a deep connection to, what they consider, the heartfelt emotion and hardship of the original country singers: Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Tammy Wynette.

By taking their music back to its humble roots, The Secret Sisters are spearheading the revival of authentic country music, and if their self-titled debut album is anything to go by, they’ll be converting audiences for many years to come.

>> We’ll be giving away a free The Secret Sisters download with this week’s newsletter. To get your hands on this fantastic giveaway sign up (top right of this page) before 12 noon on Thursday.
