Autumn events at Port Eliot
The festival may be all wrapped up till next year, but there are a variety of interesting events taking place at Port Eliot over the next few months. If you’re looking for something to whet your appetite or want to try your hand at something completely different to keep you going until 2011, take a look at what else we have going on.
Chinese Brush Painting
Over the weekend of 25-26th September, Port Eliot will take on a distinctly Chinese theme. Following his successful taster classes at Port Eliot House in June, renowned artist Xiao Bai Li will be running a two-day course in Chinese brush painting.
No previous experience is necessary, as Xiao will take you through all the techniques involved and help you develop your skills over the weekend. Numbers are limited to make sure everyone gets plenty of individual attention. You can also enjoy a two-course lunch with a glass of wine – or if you prefer, bring a picnic and stroll the grounds and enjoy the stunning views across the Estate.
The weekend costs £130 (including lunch) or £100 (excluding lunch).
The Taste of Port Eliot – a seafood-focused cookery course in the Big Kitchen
Join us on Saturday October 16th in the splendid restored Georgian kitchen at Port Eliot for a day focusing on seafood – and how to get the best from it.
Chris Sherville’s Seafood Restaurant in the Walled Garden at Port Eliot Festival – with its fresh crab and lobster, calamari and chips, and cones of whitebait – has been one of the highlights of Port Eliot Festival every year. Chris trained at the prestigious Leith’s School of Food and Wine and has lived, travelled, eaten and cooked in a variety of places around the world, from the Far East to the South West.
Chris will teach you how to cook some of the recipes from the festival, and there’ll be an opportunity to taste, ask questions and pick up tips on technique and kitchen shortcuts. The course will conclude with a sumptuous afternoon tea, followed by a tour of the rooms ‘below stairs’ led by Catherine St Germans.
It will be a relaxed, interesting day with great food and wine – and a chance to enjoy the splendors of Port Eliot. The course is suitable for people of all abilities and costs £100 (including lunch, afternoon tea, wine tasting and copy of the recipes to take home).
