Simon Munnery
British comedy writer and experimental standup comedian Simon Munnery is otherwise known by his stage names of Alan Parker: Urban Warrior and The League Against Tedium. Famed for his often-political satire, his career milestones span across TV, radio and the literary realm.
These include Cluub Zarathustra (1993), Attention Scum! (2001), Simon Munnery’s Annual General Meeting (2003-2007), BBC Radio and Resonance FM radio shows, Sit-Down Comedy (Ebury Press/Random House, 2003), How To Live, P.O.W (2005), and as a contributor to Wall & Piece by Banksy (Century, 2006).
Munnery was announced 2007’s ‘National Treasure of the Year’, and had two DVDs of his work released the same year - IAMTV, covering his Perrier Award Nominated show from the 1999 Edinburgh Fringe, and Hello, a more recent stand-up performance. The 2006 Edinburgh Fringe show, AGM, included an opportunity for the audience to raise questions to discuss as group (such as “is there a God?”). In an interview afterwards, Munnery told The Guardian: “No one ever considers what an amazing thing an audience is… With hecklers, they are there to help you, really. I’m not worried in any way about heckling any more. If a performer knows it’s not going very well, a heckler is like a gift from God. All you’ve got to do is turn everyone against them and you’re back into a sort of rally mode.”
So, come on down to the 2009 Port Eliot Festival and be prepared to laugh yourself into a stupor…

“There are outsiders and then there are outsiders. There are those who like to think they’re a bit cutting edge, and then there are those whose comedy comes from another place entirely, genuine mavericks who can’t possibly be imitated. Simon Munnery is one of those outsiders. His show is quite unlike anything else you’ll see.”
