Rick Stroud

Writer and television director Rick Stroud is best known for directing popular soaps and television series such as Coronation Street and Cadfael. He recently wrote and directed the BBC’s celebration of the life of John Betjemen, and is currently writing The Book of the Moon (Transworld) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of man’s first steps on the moon. To celebrate its publication this spring, Rick will be leading a moonwatching session in the Walled Garden at this year’s festival.

Rick began work at Granada TV shortly after graduating from Oxford, under the role of associate producer for Brideshead Revisited and director of the much-loved Coronation Street. He has since directed some of the biggest names in the British television industry, such as Joanna Lumley, David Suchet and Neil Morrissey, and his creative talents have landed him nominations for BAFTAs and an Emmy. Most recently, he’s been the brains behind the CBBC series Living It and a vast amount of his work has been showcased on American television, where he’d worked on the mini-series Nancy Astor and TV film The Last Day.

His first book, The Book of the Moon, sees space-obsessed Stroud offering up “an absorbing account of all things lunar” in a book which “celebrates the physics that created the moon and the technology that took us there”.

“Erudite, elegant, and entertaining. Rick Stroud flies you to the moon and lets you play among the stars.”
Ben Schott, in praise of Rick’s forthcoming book
