Andrew Macdonald has produced some of the most successful British film of the last 20 years, including Trainspotting, The Last King of Scotland, 28 Days Later and last year’s eagerly awaited adaptation of Never Let Me Go.
At this year’s festival Andrew will be introducing a screening of the documentary he and his brother made, telling the story of their grandfather’s life, the legendary film-maker Emeric Pressburger. Pressburger created some of the classics of the British cinema, including The Red Shoes, chosen by Martin Scorsese for the Paradiso Outdoor Cinema. This 1995 documentary retraces their grandfather’s journey in exile from Hungary and five other European countries, arriving in England in 1935. Includes interviews with his friends and colleagues and using home movies, diary extracts and film clips.
