In his book Paddle; A long way around Ireland, Jasper Winn tells the story of his thousand mile sea-kayak trip around the coast of the world’s twentieth largest island. Take to the water with him at Port Eliot for his ‘slow-adventure’ Paddle-Talk event. On Friday and Saturday, just as the tide is reaching it peak, small groups will slip peacefully onto the river with Jasper and kayak through the estuary spotting wildlife along the way. After a gentle hour’s paddling, return to the shore, dry off and warm up with the campfire, music, tales and campfire fare at Jasper’s Camp. He’ll be recounting some tales from his thousand-mile paddle, from battling seas and high winds to stories of dolphins and sharks and, of course, on those days when Mother Nature really lost her temper, the dry land adventures making music in the west coast pubs.
>> Booking is via the info points around the festival site, and will be on a first come first served basis. The Paddle-Talks will be suitable for those who have not paddled before but children must be over 12 years old, and each child under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. All safety equipment will be provided. Jasper recommends bringing an old warm jacket and something to sit at the camp.
