A Beach Supreme
West Cornwall jazz funk quartet A Beach Supreme blend blues-soaked Hammond organ, funky sax, hard-driving bass lines, “in-the-pocket” drum grooves and a touch of Latin percussion to create “a spontaneous outburst of melodic jamming, underpinned by a love of ‘the Good Groove’.”
Jazz aficionados Marc Hadley, Pete Kubryk-Townsend, Damian Rodd and Richard Penrose share an incredible and diverse musical pedigree, from busking on the streets of Paris to playing in the Royal Festival Hall; recording with Fela Kuti, Virgin Records, BBC2 and Channel 4 to playing with Cornwall’s internationally acclaimed Kneehigh theatre company. They all find common ground in their love of the classic Blue Note back-catalogue, fused with a healthy sprinkling of melodies harvested from the 1960s and 1970s pop charts.
Thanks to their diverse backgrounds and experience, A Beach Supreme can sound equally authentic playing Georgie Fame hits to Brazilian street funk, and switch effortlessly from James Brown to Salsa – or even drum ’n bass. Whether you’re six or 66, one thing’s certain – you won’t be able to stay away from the dancefloor.
