The Book Club Boutique Band
Salena Godden, lead singer and lyricist of underground eclectic ska-break band SaltPeter, doesn’t let her achievements rest there: she’s written a memoir, and now she produces and hosts The Book Club Boutique (BCB), Soho’s hippest literary salon – and home of the BCB band. They’ll be bringing their special brand of books, booze, boogie-woogie and all-star musicians, authors and poets to Port Eliot.
With an ever-changing line-up of special guests and the lyrics often improvised to suit the moment, you really never know what you’re going to get from The Book Club Boutique Band and never the same show twice! It’s like hearing the love child of screaming Jay Hawkins and Tina Turner performing re-workings of SaltPeter tracks, warped inside out and turned upside down, and then something completely fresh and new.
On bass guitar we find the sassy New York tattooed chic of Ms Max Doray and Salena Godden doing the wild thing on vocals… Other members of the BCB band include Steve Hands on drums and Sean Dillon on guitars. The lyrics are often improvised to the theme of the event and rock and roll surprise guests have been known to get up and jam too.
BCB are a firm festival favourite and old friend of Port Eliot, so one thing is for sure: it’s going to be a wild party – you’ll be sweating and screaming the lyrics all the way home and in your sleep! You have been warned.
