Martin Parr

Magnum photographer Martin Parr is a self-proclaimed ‘populist’ photographer who’s had almost 50 books published and featured in around 80 exhibitions worldwide. His iconic photographs provide a thought-provoking, satirical commentary on the social and consumer world around us. We’re delighted to welcome him back to Port Eliot this year, where he’ll be presenting his Parrworld show.

Aesthetica Magazine blogged: “I left the show feeling inspired to get my camera out, and start taking pictures, while at the same time I started thinking about the notion of collecting, a cultural consciousness, memories and our constantly changing times.”

Martin is also an avid collector of photographs and postcards and a documentary filmmaker (acting as a cameraman on the 2006 It’s Nice up North by comedian Graham Fellows). His photographs often put his subjects under the microscope – including the closer details of Port Eliot House, click here to see his evocative photographs from inside the House.

“There’s a very English sensibility to so much of Parr’s work: understated, ironic, gently humorous.”
