The John Moore Rock ‘n’ Roll Trio
The prolific John Moore brings his musical talents to the Idler’s Academy with his Rock and Roll Trio, teaming up with Phil King and Loz Colbert to produce “back-to-basics rock ‘n’ roll of the righteously dirty, low-down kind” (Time Out). A co-founder of Black Box Recorder with fellow Port Eliot performer Luke Haines, John is also a contributor to The Guardian and The Idler.
Having played with Phil and Loz in band The Jesus and Mary Chain in the late 1980s, John departed to play guitar in The Expressway, Revolver 9 and then Black Box Recorder, before becoming the man who reintroduced the alcoholic drink Absinthe to the UK, and the first person to have featured on both Top of the Pops, and University Challenge. The John Moore Rock and Roll Trio’s sole album Role Your Activator (2010) is a collection of covers from artists such as Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis, which The Quietus says “breathes new life into old material with a sincerity and sense of unabashed joy that’s utterly palpable”.
