Apples & Snakes
One of the UK’s leading performance poetry organisations, Apples & Snakes are taking their recent sell-out show Forked on the road. The show comprises an electric and eclectric mix of local, national and international poets, from Zimbabwean slam poet Dikson, to ‘organic free-range’ poet Jackie Juno. Audiences can expect raucous laughter, tears of joy, deep penetrating thoughts, and even a ukulele thrown in for good measure.
Originating in a pub called the Adam’s Arms in London in 1982, Apples & Snakes have been a development ground for many high profile poets and artists, with early shows featuring now-household names, such as Billy Bragg and Phil Jupitus, and Port Eliot 2010 performers Luke Wright and Murray Lachlan Young. Their current band of performers have received wide acclaim for their efforts, such as Will Stopha, who has been described as “one of the best poets around” (Kerrang) and wondering troubadour Tricity Vogue, whose show has been called “cabaret to run down side-streets for” (Time Out).
Apples & Snakes will be performing twice on festival Friday, on the Walled Garden stage for a mini afternoon showcase, and at the B-Bar’s Bowling Green tent in the evening, for a full-length poetic extravaganza.
