Denise Christian Yoga

Denise Christian wants to inspire Port Eliot Festival-goers into managing their own daily Ashtanga Yoga practice. She’s certainly well-qualified for the task: she’s been teaching the method for nine years and shows amazing dedication to her craft.

One of the more dynamic forms of yoga, Ashtanga Vinyasa purifies the system through heat generated by the breath and continual movement. Denise is from Antigua in the Caribbean and her practice and teaching is imbued with that island vibe, finding the sweetness in every practice … She will be running sessions for both beginners and more experienced practitioners which can be booked at the Production Office.

The Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga series has its origins in ancient Vedic texts; Sri K. Pattabhi Jois brought the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga method (synchronised breath with movement) to the modern world. The internal heat produced during the series of movements and postures process causes the body to break into a cleansing sweat – detoxifying the muscles and organs. Daily practice can result in improved circulation, a light and strong body, and a calm mind.

Denise taught alongside Britain’s most senior Ashtanga Yoga teacher, Hamish Hendry, at Ashtanga Yoga London and and has also practised many times in Mysore, India, with the late Sri K Pattabhi Jois, the originator of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga, and his grandson Sharath Rangaswamy.

She currently lives in North Cornwall where she’s building her own community of Yoginis.

“Ashtanga yoga is 99 percent practice, one percent theory.”
Pattabhi Jois, originator of Ashtanga Yoga
