Black Friday
Black Friday is a high-energy Celtic folk band from our very own St Germans. With a fine mix of original songs, traditional Irish jigs, reels, and cover versions, their influences are as diverse as Johnny Cash, The Clash, Flogging Molly and The Pogues. They’ve been rampaging the pubs, clubs and festivals of Devon, Cornwall and beyond for the last three years, playing over 100 gigs in 2006 alone. So loosen your clothes, grab yourself a cider (or three) and come join the party.
Formed in 2006, Black Friday are prolific performers and have played at a variety of venues and festivals around the country including the Maker Festival, Port Eliot Festival 2007, Plymouth Folk Festival, the Volks Festival, the Electric Picnic, Burnham-on-Sea Folk Festival and Wimbourne Folk Festival.
The Black Friday vessel has also fired its folk cannons at Dublin and London, sending vibrations through the renowned Gaz’s Rockin’ Blues Club in Soho, where they were spotted by Radio 2 DJ, Mark Lamarr. Consequently, they were invited to record a six-song session at the famous Maida Vale studio for his radio show. Whilst they were there they played for their hero Shane Macgowan, who was very impressed with their rendition of the folk classic ‘Dirty Old Town’.
Black Friday are also world record holders – playing a fiddle busting, whistle wheezing 30 gigs in 12 hours, so they obviously have the stamina to keep up with you on the dance floor, as long as you can find it, that is…
