Cherry Ghost

Cherry Ghost is an award-winning band who blend evocative lyrics with haunting melodies to reflect life in all its magical splendour. Their new album Beneath This Burning Shoreline is full of the messy, muddled loveliness of romance and the band will be romancing their way onto the Caught By The River stage for us at this year’s festival.

Led by songwriter and vocalist Simon Aldred, Cherry Ghost are Jim Rhodes, Ben Parsons, Grenville Harrop and Phill Anderson. Simon has come a long way since recording songs in his bedroom in Bolton. The band’s debut album, Thirst For Romance (2007), entered the UK album charts at #7, won them Best New Act at the Q Awards that year, and its lead single ‘People Are The People’ won an Ivor Novello award for Best Contemporary Song in 2008.

Cherry Ghost has toured widely and supported acts including The Doves, Amy Winehouse and Bill Callahan, and will be joining The Coral this summer. Their songs ‘Mathematics’ and ’4am’, have been showcased on Later With Jools Holland and were played heavily on Radio 2 and 6 Music.

After the success of their first album the band took a break, Simon started writing and the songs poured out of him. The new album Beneath This Burning Shoreline was stitched together in a barn on a tiny farm south of Manchester. They sat on mattresses as they played their instruments, and put their amps on toilet lids, finishing the sessions in the early morning as the farmer headed out to milk the cows.

We’re sure they’ll fit right in at Port Eliot…
