Justin Adams & Juldeh Camara
Hailing from very different corners of the earth, Justin Adams and Juldeh Camara are both successful artists in their own right. Justin is a renowned British producer and rock guitarist who plays in Robert Plant’s band; Juldeh is a Gambian a master of the riti (or nyanyeru), which he learnt from his blind father. Their collaboration, fusing roots music, rock and Afro beats to delicious effect, has received great acclaim in recent years.
Adams brings Clash-style punk energy to West African trance rhythm; while Camara plays a single string violin (riti) which sounds like a blues harp one minute and a Celtic fiddle the next.
Justin has worked with Brian Eno and Jah Wobble, amongst many others. Juldeh has played with The Blind Boys of Alabama and Batani Marimba, and is recognised as the leading riti player in the world. Bringing both their talents to bare, in 2008 they won the Radio 3 award for Cultural Crossing for their album Soul Science.
In January this year they released The Trance Sessions. They were made live in the studio at the end of 2009, each track done in one take, with no overdubs. Listen to them at:

“A Jagger-less early Stones fronted by Ali Farka Toure”
(The Telegraph)
“Songs that echo the raw exuberance of the Clash, the rolling blues of Muddy Waters and the delicacy and grandeur of the ancient griot ballads. Magnificient.”
(The Guardian)
