Chris Watson

Chris Watson is one of the world’s leading recorders of wildlife and natural phenomena, producing sound installations and recordings for film, television and radio. Back by popular demand after his incredible Nature Disco last year – a festival highlight for many – Chris is visiting Port Eliot this May to make a special recording of night falling over the Lynher Estuary and around Port Eliot’s woods and gardens, which he will be incorporating into an exciting new Nature Disco for 2010.

From the groaning of Icelandic glaciers to underwater recordings of the Humboldt current around the Galapagos Islands, to a cacophony of birds, primates and insects in a South American rainforest, Chris has won awards for his exceptional work, which he says, “puts a microphone where you can’t put your ears”.

Chris’ recordings have featured in hit film The Constant Gardener, Playstation versions of the Harry Potter series, and he also contributed recordings to the new Sigur Ros movie, Heima, which premiered at the Electric Proms in London in 2007.

He was also a founding member of UK experimental music band, Cabaret Voltaire. Chris’ more recent solo albums include Outside the Circle of Fire, Stepping into the Dark (which won an Award of Distinction at the 2000 Prix Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria) and the iconic Weather Report – named in the Guardian’s ’1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die’ list. He has won awards for his work for BBC natural history programmes by David Attenborough and others, and has been awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of West England for his outstanding contribution to sound recording.
