Pete Fowler is The Monsterist, an illustrator living in a world where banjos are played by horned owls and mutant horses tweak synths. His sense of playfulness is captured in the visual adventures that have brought his work to the attention of a worldwide audience. Find him at Port Eliot where he’ll be redefining the festival facepainting for children and adults alike in Matt Sewell’s birdhide down by the river.

Originally from Wales, Pete’s most recognised images have been for his ongoing design work for fellow Welshmen, The Super Furry Animals. His work in the field of music keeps him busy and he’s also designed figures for the Magic Numbers and The Mighty Boosh and most recently designed a Selfridges window display for Hot Chip.

Pete’s character design meets music and art in a weird and wonderful way and most of his inspiration comes from life around him. He weaves these images into the psychedelic motifs, monsters and landscapes that form a backdrop to his ever-growing family of characters.

His World of Monsterism figurines have gained a worldwide fan-base and commercially he has worked with Volvic, Kia Motors, Levi’s, Paul Smith, Lynx and Hewlett Packard amongst others.

Alongside all of that, Pete has been developing a cartoon series that has been signed by Disney Europe and is due to be aired late 2010.

He works very closely with a number of UK based music festivals which has further crystallized the link between his art and music, bringing his fan base to a wider audience and we’re excited to have him at the Port Eliot Festival.
